Governor Aims – School Curriculum
Governors believe that the school curriculum should:
- Be appropriate to the needs, abilities and aptitudes of individual pupils.
- Acknowledge that pupils may at some time have special educational needs requiring particular provision.
- Recognise that all are entitled to equal opportunities and have the right to social, cultural and religious differences.
- Enable pupils to develop a sense of self-value, self-respect and independence.
- Promote and celebrate the spiritual, moral, cultural, emotional, creative, aesthetic, intellectual, physical and social development of our pupils.
- Enable pupils to develop knowledge, understanding skills, practical abilities and aptitudes in ways which are relevant to their needs and the community in which they live.
- To develop through consultation partnership with parents, parish, community associations and voluntary agencies.
Key Principles on which our curriculum is based:
Breadth Balance
Coherence Relevance
Differentiation Progression

- Want to learn and be able to learn.
- Think clearly, creatively and make judgements.
- Learn how to reflect upon themselves.

- Express themselves and learn through music, the arts, sport, physical activity, design and making and interact confidently with technology.
- Begin to understand the nature of the immediate environment in Northumberland and how it relates to the wider UK and world context.
- Begin to understand their culture and those of others past and present, and how culture links with society.
- Value their own achievements and those of others.
- Distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.
- Begin to be able to understand beliefs, values and attitudes of others.
